12 West Street, Prescot 26648, Royal Air Force Born in Prescot in 1896, Harold was the eldest son of William and Jane Eaton of West Street. At the time of the 1911 census, he was listed as a Scholar, aged 15. His father was an Engineer's Storekeeper at the Wire Works.
Harold joined the Royal Flying Corps on 20th April 1916. At that time he was employed as a Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist, working at the Wire Works. After training, he was posted overseas on 20th October 1916.
As an Aircraft Man Grade 3 (AM3), he was transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force on 1st April 1918 and was then promoted to AM2 on 1st October 1918.
He returned to the UK on 26th April 1919 and was transferred to the Class G Reserve on 29th June 1919.
The London Gazette of 3rd June 1919 recorded his award of the Meritorious Service Medal and in addition, his service entitled him to the British War Medal and Victory Medal
His service is commemorated on the Prescot Parish Church Men's Institute Roll of Honour
In late 1920, Harold married Lily White in Prescot. They had one daughter, Lilian, born in 1921.
Harold died in Prescot in 1966, aged 70
